Rolando Rojas
Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, 1970 -
Rolando Rojas comes from a place where the sun heat the skin almost all year, where women walk with a smooth movement of hips, with the floor length skirts, embroidered blouses of thousand colors, and on the head a basket with corn chips or dry fish to sell in the market. This makes them a long figures that seem to touch the sky and evoked by this Isthmian painter in his work.
Rolando child looks them in the evening where a timid breeze gives him a break out of his house. Listen to their voices and dreams , are filled with all that Zapotec universe. Front of him passes a cart pulled by two oxen to discover language forms and fantasies. Birds of iridescent colors are the gateway to the compression of the endless range of color that nature provides to interpret after the painter in his own way, alone in front of the blank canvas. His imagination transforms bule and gourd in a zoomorphic toy.
Rolando listened attentively to their grandmothers stories narrated with the vehemence of their voice and naked torso, exposing her breasts seemed to come to the floor and now found in the sculptures of artist Rolando and in his oils as a insuperable presence that do not finish to recreate his inside. That voice carried him every afternoon to a world of illusion, the tradition of an ancient people belonging him by inheritance.Source: "Rolando Rojas" by Dora Luz Martínez Vasconcelos
